Personal Statement Draft

I can vividly remember being fascinated by moving image as a child. I would always wonder when watching a film or TV show what it took to make everything come together and how everything was made. From this interest as a child, I grew to want to pursue a career in media. My interest was later solidified with the growing industry of YouTube making it possible for regular people to create and share videos of their own, giving you a platform to freely create whatever videos you want. Ever since I got my first device that was able to record video I would be filming and editing whatever I could to get better at what I enjoyed doing.

Before starting any media courses in education I was able to edit videos to a basic standard as I had a basic program and knowledge of how to edit, however, through my course I have learned so much more within the field of editing which I was completely oblivious to before. For example, colour correction. This was not something I was aware of until lately and I have worked on this area of editing to make sure I can use it to a standard which is acceptable at the level I’m currently working at and possibly above. One area that I wish to develop would be my ideas and creativity. As media is a creative subject it’s imperative that all ideas are new and refreshing which gives an audience a reason to watch. I believe that my ideas right now are relatively creative, but it would put me at a great advantage to be able to come up with brand new creative ideas.

Outside of college, I have had multiple YouTube channels which have allowed my creativity, filming and editing skills to develop. This gave me experience when it came to using a DSLR camera. I also recently did work experience at a company called 'Affari' in Nottingham. They specialise in animation in the B2B area and have worked with companies such as DHL and Fujitsu. I was lucky enough to be taught how to animate in After Effects and I also gained an insight into how much work goes into a professional level project.
